Product Review: One Legal Makes Mandatory E-Filing Easy

By July 12, 2018 No Comments

Court filings have gone digital! Filers in Illinois are required to file court papers via the e-filing system of their choice. And while most of Illinois is already in compliance with the mandatory e-filing requirements, Cook County courts will come into compliance on July 1. One Legal is already one step ahead and poised to provide the easiest, most user-friendly e-filing tool to customers.

One Legal has been providing full-service legal support to customers for decades. In 1990, it became the first organization to get a facsimile-transmitted document accepted in a California court. Today, One Legal continues their groundbreaking work in legal solutions by providing easy to use e-filing tools that save customers time and money on court filings in Illinois, Texas, Indiana, and California.

One Legal Advantage

There are many e-filing service providers to choose from, but there are also many advantages to opting for a more robust, full-service litigation support portal like One Legal.

*Simple user interface. One Legal’s e-filing tool uses self-explanatory drop-down menus and status updates with clear descriptions.

*Streamlined physical process serving. One Legal users can request nationwide process service right from the interface—no need to do printouts or send separate emails.

*Full-service eFiling by concierge. One Legal can check filings for accuracy and adherence to local court rules so they don’t get rejected. You can also email your documents to their Concierge team to prepare and file on your behalf.

*Automatic conversion to text-searchable PDF. One Legal scans your image and text files using a process called optical character recognition (OCR), making them searchable and up to Illlinois court standards.

Many Courts – One Service

E-filers using One Legal can do all of their Illinois filings from one portal, and can even file across state lines. One Legal currently provides e-filing service in Illinois, Indiana, Texas, and California. No need to log into a different system—simply click to directly access the correct court forms and do the filing from one place.  Nothing is ever printed or saved on One Legal’s systems. The filing goes directly to the court and is placed in their electronic documentation system.

Your Court Liaison

One Legal provides full support as an e-filing service provider.  They can work with you to greatly reduce the chance that your filing will get rejected by the court. If it is rejected, the One Legal tool will provide information about the reason for the rejection.

Additionally, its product trainings contain lots of state-specific court information and rules, and many are CLE accredited. One Legal keeps users informed about rule changes and educational events on a series of frequently updated, state-focused blogs for litigation support professionals, including a blog for Illinois filers.

Live Customer Support

One Legal is supported by an experienced customer support and training team to answer questions and help customers understand their court’s e-filing workflow. Help is available by phone, email, chat every weekday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Central. To bolster its local presence, One Legal recently opened a new support center in Rockford, Illinois.

Reduce Data Entry

When you sign into One Legal, there is a list of your recent filings so that the system can automatically pull the data from a filing into another document, reducing the amount of data entry required. That means no more entering data two or three times just because you need to file another form for the same case. One Legal makes it one-click simple to pull the right data for your filing.

Order Status Tracking

One Legal uses four color-coded status icons to provide a clear picture of what’s happening with all your filing orders. Was the transaction accepted, partially or fully rejected? Users can drill down into the details with just a click.

Designated contacts on the One Legal account, optionally including the filing attorney, will also receive email notifications for each status change to their filing. These contacts can be changed on-the-fly so if one person is unavailable due to illness or vacation, someone else is still receiving status updates.

Unique Features

Client Billing Code

To help you spend less time on accounting work, One Legal’s included billing center organizes charges by client billing code, allowing you to push one button to generate invoices and statements. Billing codes are internal and do not enter the court system.

Flexible Billing

One Legal pays your court fees up front and can bill you on flexible payment terms. It also lowers payment processing fees—a significant hidden cost in many eFiling service providers—by automatically defaulting to the cheapest available payment method based on the total value of the transaction. This is important because expensive filings are often much cheaper to process via flat-rate ACH payment while inexpensive filings may be cheaper to pay by credit card.

There’s also some ability to change billing options within each eFiling workflow. Before clicking ‘Submit’, you can choose whether a filing is billed to your firm/organization or to individual attorneys/employees.

In Summary

Mandatory efiling is the way of the future, and experienced litigation service providers like One Legal have put years of effort and learning into creating a smooth experience for their law firm clients. Take advantage of their expertise and leverage technology to streamline the filing process.
